Moustache is a relatively new French brand of electric bike. Unlike many bike makers out there who are playing catch up and adding generic e-bikes to their line-up, Moustache only makes electric bikes, so all their R&D goes into getting e-bikes just right.
Big on aesthetics and ‘user experience’, the result is highly evolved and integrated riding machines – rolling works of art. The range includes town bikes, trekking/cycle path bikes and full blown e-mountain bikes with front or full suspension.
All Moustache bikes use the benchmark Bosch motors. The Bosch system is pedal-assist only, so you still have to work some (yes, it’s a bicycle, not a motorbike!), but super efficient battery management, well designed controls and a torque sensor, means that the ride is pure pleasure.
Some models come with the wonderful NuVinci hub gears too – this provides a continuous gear without any ‘steps’ or increments, just a very intuitive twist shifter that means you’re always in exactly the right gear. Plus you can change gear when stationery – great for taking off from stop signs, or at the bottom of a hill.
Recently Moustache teamed up with renowned designer Philippe Starck, to produce a concept range of bikes suited to various types of riding, dubbed M.A.S.S. – ‘mud’, ‘asphalt’, ‘sand’, ‘snow’.
Numbers of Moustache electric bikes available in New Zealand will be limited with delivery some time off, but specific models can be preordered through us, for delivery in late January. If you’re in the market for an outstanding e-bike, and are willing to wait, we think these bikes are the cream of the crop.
